The "vintage" car market is suprising me.

Every now and then I check the local craigslists for going prices on 2nd gen Trans Ams. I judge them based on originality, rust, running status, and overall niceness. It seems the market has exploded for the things within the last year. Basket case base model cars needing all major body panels with non-original engines and crap interiors are going for over $2,000. That's insane! Driver condition cars are going for anywhere from $6000 - $15,000. I bought my real Special Edition car for only $2500 about 19 months ago (it was a great deal, but still). Also, this is a great deal if someone is looking to buy one of these. A real 1976 50th anniversary Special Edition - the first black and gold Trans Am.

Edit: HOLY SHIT! That car came with a rear center-console. Now that is one heck of a rare option. Those things are worth tons today.

Sucks for everyone else, I'm not complaining. It means my car can only go up in value.

Oooh, rear center console. <3

I blame Spinelli and Musto. Did you see the latest After Drive video? These things are getting out of hand.

Good thing we got ours when we did, for the prices we paid.

I wish they had included a pic of the rear console. I never knew that existed.

Here's a pic. I would highly doubt the car still has it, I'm sure most have been destroyed or lost over the last 35 years.

It was a rare option and it was only run for a few years. I think 1977 was the last year for them, GM dropped the option after low take numbers.

Prices are out of hand all around. Last week I did a job for a lady that was the original owner of an 86 PMYellow Iroc. It was all there but had been parked outside, unmoved since 1990.
I offered her $2500 for it and she laughed in my face. No, she thinks it's worth $18,500!

It's a sickness..

You'll get surprising offers on your car. With the paint peeling off and a bad quarter panel, I've gotten offers of nearly $15,000 for my first-gen! And we can only expect the price of our cars to go even higher!

Oh yeah, first gens are sky-rocketing right now.

Holy crap no. I wouldn't even pay $2500 for a non running 3rd gen. That's madness!

It only had 30k on the clock and was stone stock. I'd give 2k or so for it.
The big offender is an 85 Firebird not far from my shop.
It's Krylon flat black front to back, top to bottom.
Only $3500..
Goes without saying my $800 offer got the stinkeye.
It had Rally II wheels (flat black) that are worth $800. Or so I'm told.

It's nuts how much some of these cars are going for now! Considering they were originally supposed to be "cheap" cars.
